Micron plans to establish a second chip manufacturing facility in Taiwan. To this end, it has acquired the Tongluo P5 site from Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp.

The aim of this expansion is to increase the production of advanced DRAM memory chips-including high-bandwidth memory-used in artificial intelligence systems worldwide.

Micron stated that it would build this new type of facility on a scale comparable to its existing manufacturing plant located in Miaoli County, Taiwan.

The company expects the construction of the planned second facility in Taiwan to begin by the end of Micron's 2026 fiscal year.

Micron recently acquired the Tongluo facility from PSMC; this further strengthens Micron's long-term manufacturing expansion and strategic presence within Taiwan's semiconductor sector.

The surging demand for AI in recent times is prompting memory manufacturers to expand their capacity, particularly for HBM products, which are essential for advanced data-center hardware worldwide.

Taiwan continues to be a key hub for semiconductor manufacturing; Micron's investment is a testament to the confidence placed in the island's chip ecosystem.

This project highlights Micron's focus on scaling advanced memory production, driven by the accelerating expenditure on AI infrastructure in global markets.

Micron deemed expanding in Taiwan essential to position itself effectively to meet the growing customer demand for next-generation memory technologies.

Amid rapidly growing global demand for AI-based chips, this new facility could further strengthen Micron's competitiveness in the global memory industry.
